February is heart month. Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death globally, with approximately 60,000 in Canada alone. Early CPR and early application of an Automatic External Defibrillator can increase survival rates dramatically. The AED Foundation of Ontario is advocating to establish an AED registry for the province. A comprehensive AED registry that is connected to 911 supported by stakeholders and research will save lives.
The AED Foundation of Ontario’s mission is to increase the use of
Automatic External Defibrillators through promotion, advocacy, and education.
The AED Foundation of Ontario’s vision is to improve AED accessibility through a central registry and 911 integration, promote use through marketing and media, advocate through partnerships and research, and educate with
simple and effective programs.
The AED Foundation of Ontario is a registered non profit agency dedicated to improving
sudden cardiac arrest survival in the community.
Danmar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. An AED was used to restore his heartbeat. See the video below from CBS affiliate YUSA9
