The AED Foundation Ontario is honoured to be recognized by Municipal World as one of its Top Five Municipal Changemakers of 2025.

This recognition is a meaningful milestone for our organization and a reflection of the work being done across Ontario to strengthen community safety, improve access to Automated External Defibrillators, and support faster emergency response when every second matters.

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. In those critical first moments, access to an AED can help save a life. But an AED can only make a difference if it can be found, accessed, and used quickly.

That is why the AED Foundation Ontario’s work is so important.

As Ontario’s official AED Registrar, the AED Foundation Ontario is helping build the province’s centralized AED registry, supporting the registration of publicly accessible AEDs so their locations can be integrated with 911. When a cardiac emergency occurs, this connection can help emergency dispatchers direct bystanders to the nearest registered AED, turning awareness and access into lifesaving action.

Being named a Municipal Changemaker is especially meaningful because municipalities are essential partners in building safer, more prepared communities. From recreation centres and arenas to libraries, municipal buildings, parks, workplaces, and public spaces, AEDs are part of the emergency response network that helps protect residents and visitors alike.

This recognition also belongs to the many people and partners who have helped move this work forward, including paramedic services, municipal leaders, community organizations, AED owners, advocates, families, and survivors who understand firsthand why AED access matters.

Each conversation, each partnership, and each registered AED brings Ontario closer to a future where lifesaving devices are easier to find, ready to use, and connected to the people who need them most.

We are grateful to Municipal World for recognizing this work and for highlighting the organizations and leaders helping drive meaningful municipal change.

The AED Foundation Ontario remains committed to its mission to promote, advocate, and educate in support of greater AED awareness, stronger public access, and improved survival from sudden cardiac arrest across the province.
