The AED Foundation of Ontario is a nonprofit organization created to meet the needs arising from the Defibrillator Registration and Public Access Act that was passed in 2020. The mission of the foundation is the promotion, advocacy, and education of automatic external defibrillators in the community.
Every year in Ontario approximately seven thousand people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest. Research shows that early CPR and AED use increase the chances of survival up to 66%. Unfortunately, the amount of time an AED is used is less than 4%. Public access defibrillators and programs have existed in Ontario for over twenty years. To date, the survivability from an out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest has still remained at less than 10%.
This is what the AED Foundation of Ontario wants to change, and we need your help. By donating to the AED Foundation, you are providing us with the ability to create awareness in the community. Raising awareness is key in the struggle to impress the urgency of a provincial AED registry with the Ministry of Health. With donations the AED Foundation can fund campaigns and engage MPP’s, expand our media reach, and raise a larger stakeholder group capable of significant change.
The AED Foundation of Ontario’s long-term goals are to assume control and care of a provincial AED registry, integrate all AED locations with 911, maintain a consistent advocacy through promotion and education, and create a stakeholder group from across all spectrums of AED manufacturers, distributors, owners, coordinators, researchers, and advocates. Together we can increase survival of sudden cardiac arrest.
